The Islamic International Relief Organization, an affiliate of Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), has spent SR16,387,689 on digging 2598 surface and artesian wells, benefiting 359106 needy persons in remote areas in 13 member countries in Asia and Africa, it was reported here today. In a statement, the Secretary General of MWL Ihsan Tayyip said beneficiaries belong to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Kashmir, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Yemen. He added that MWL is exerting strenuous efforts to provide residents of remote areas, far villages and valleys in some member countries with clean potable water to evade epidemic illnesses resulting from drinking or using polluted water.
