Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Qatar's Foreign Minister and President of the current session of GCC Ministerial Council, said that the GCC countries are capable of protecting their strategic interests. This came in a joint press conference with GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani at Riyadh Air Base today. The Qatari Foreign Minister pointed out that Resolution No. 2216 will maintain legitimacy in Yemen. Responding to a question on Yemeni dialogue in Geneva, Dr. Al-Attiyah said the brethren in Yemen have confirmed that dialogue mechanisms, whether in Geneva or any other place, will be within GCC initiative, national dialogue outcomes and the UN Security Council resolutions including Resolution No. 2216. He stressed that the Yemenis can reach results that serve their interests in Yemen. The GCC member states support legitimacy and put all their potentials to protect it. GCC member states, he added, work on realizing the demands of the Syrian people; monitor the situation there; and support representatives in the United Nations to pressure the world community to intervene in the Syrian crisis.
