The Shura Council held its 43rd ordinary session in Riyadh today, presided over by the chamber's Vice Speaker Dr. Mohammed bin Amin Al-Jeffery. In a press statement following the meeting, Assistant Speaker of the Council Dr. Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Samaan said that the Shura Council discussed, among other issues, the annual report for the fiscal year 1435/1436 H. of the Saudi National Commission for Human Rights submitted by the Chairperson of the Human Rights and Control Commissions Committee Dr. Thuraya Obaid. The committee recommended accelerating measures to amend the Commission's system to guarantee its financial and administrative independence. Also recommended were creating mechanisms according to specific standards and indications to monitor, authenticate and follow-up the case of human rights in the Kingdom and upgrade and modernize the program of spreading human rights culture in the Kingdom, including an executive plan to carry it out. One member criticized the Commission for not adopting a guiding program showing the people their rights and monitoring the performance of governmental bodies as regards human rights, citing the rights of the disabled who don't find somebody to assist them. Another member asked the Commission to show up at related governmental bodies to check the commitment of those bodies to observing human rights and the necessity of the Kingdom's defense of human rights of Muslims while being discussed with foreign bodies. --More 19:58 LOCAL TIME 16:58 GMT تغريد
