Two people were killed and 20 others injured near the German city of Osnabrueck on Saturday when a passenger train collided with slurry truck, police said. According to dpa, the accident happened on a level crossing just before the train was set to enter the town of Ibbenbueren. Three of those injured are in critical condition. Police spokesman Jochen Laschke said that a rescue team was deployed to the scene and that people suffering shock had been taken to a nearby community centre. Separately, a freight train derailed near the city of Kaiserslautern, causing rail services between Frankfurt and Paris to be closed down, a spokesman for rail operator Deutsche Bahn said on Saturday. No-one was injured in the incident, which saw several train carriages of a freight train leave the tracks.
