Three railway employees were killed in a collision between a passenger train and a track maintenance vehicle in the eastern suburbs of Frankfurt early Friday, police said. According to dpa, thirteen people were injured, some seriously. Police said six of them were hospitalized. Police identified the dead as the train driver and two track maintenance workers. "We are guessing they were killed instantly from the impact," said a transport police spokesman at the scene near Muehlheim. An estimated 35 passengers were aboard the local train operated by the Deutsche Bahn national rail company when it crashed into the stationary excavator at 1 am (2300 GMT). There was no immediate explanation for why both the train and excavator were on the same section of track.
