Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Chairman of the Saudi Human Rights Council and leader of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council, met in Geneva today with Prince Zaid bin Raad, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the meeting, which took place at the UN Geneva offices, Dr. Al-Aiban conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to Raad, wishing him every success in his new position which he assumed recently. Dr. Al-Aiban gave an account on the efforts being exerted by the Saudi government, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to improve human rights systems in the Kingdom, enhance sustainable and comprehensive development in a way that achieves the protection and enhancement of human rights, judicial and legal systems, spreads human rights culture and presents the routine reports required by the international legal authorities according to human rights agreements. He reiterated Saudi Arabia's rejection of the biased criticism to the application of Islamic Sharia law vowed by some countries and non-governmental organizations and commissions of partial goals, noting that the judiciary system in the Kingdom is independent and that the Kingdom rejects any attempt to interfere in its domestic regulations or throws doubts on the fairness and independence of its judicial system. Not only that, but the Kingdom is proud of enforcing the Islamic Sharia law and it will remain adamant to that effect, Al-Aiban was quoted as telling his host. On the other hand, Dr. Al-Aiban met with the Head of Human Rights Council Uakim Roker and conveyed to him the greetings of the monarch, congratulating him on his new appointment and wishing him every success. He also briefed his host on the measures taken by the Kingdom to further enhance human rights in the Kingdom. For his part, Roker thanked the Kingdom for its noble feelings towards him, noting that the Human Rights Council always views the great role being played by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud within the international cooperation with the UN human rights council, adding that the UN Human Rights Council appreciates that role.
