A senior Indian diplomat and U.N. official has been named as the new U.N. undersecretary-general for field support. The office of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement that Atul Khare will succeed Amirah Haq of Bangladesh in the position that involves leading all logistical, financial, and other support for U.N. peacekeeping operations. Khare has been a former assistant secretary-general for U.N. peacekeeping operations, among other positions. He also served with India's diplomatic missions in France, Thailand, Britain, Senegal, Mauritius, and the United Nations.
