U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says one U.N. peacekeeper has been killed and two others injured in the shelling of the logistics headquarters of the U.N. mission in the disputed region of Abyei which is claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan. Ban told reporters Friday that he condemns the shelling. He said the three peacekeepers were Ethiopian. The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously on May 29 to send 1,100 additional peacekeepers to Abyei, raising the force strength to over 5,300 troops, and demanded that Sudan begin withdrawing its soldiers from the region.
