Saudi Arabia shares the international community's concern over climate change as a long-term challenge, and recognizes the mutual relationship between the impacts of climate change and the importance of sustainable development to ensuring a stable global economic growth. The Kingdom supports the enhancement of international cooperation in the field of climate change, and encourages the implementation of the Clean Development Mechanism as a way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Saudi Arabia has prepared a roadmap on carbon capture and storage technologies, set up the National Committee for Clean Development Mechanism in line with the Kyoto Protocol, and joined the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF). The Kingdom is also a member of the Four Kingdoms initiative, alongside Britain, the Netherlands and Norway, for the development of carbon dioxide capture and storage technologies, or its utilization in industrial and commercial applications, including the enhancement of production from depleted fields.
