management event, will continue as a major provider of affordable oil for future generations. "The challenge we face in this uncertain environment is how to address near- and long-term environmental concerns while continuing to provide affordable and reliable oil to meet the growing need for sustainable development," Al-Nasr said. "We believe it is only through technology development that we can meet these challenges." Saudi Aramco is not just talking about the problem, though. The company believes technology is the solution and is taking part in programs aimed at improved combustion efficiency, reduced carbon dioxide emissions and carbon management. "We also need to develop cleaner products to improve urban air quality," Al-Nasr said. "This is in addition to our ongoing participation in the United Nations Framework for Climate Change and Kyoto discussions." Solutions will require that people work together. "It is imperative that creative talents from around the world partner to address this global challenge," Al-Nasr said. Participants will discuss: -- The regulatory, environmental and economic aspects of carbon management. -- The latest in technologies targeting carbon dioxide capture from fixed and mobile sources. -- Carbon dioxide sequestration and its use in enhanced oil and gas recovery. The main objectives of the symposium are to develop regional carbon management awareness; to provide updates on regulations and policies, and economic and technological developments; to establish network relationships that create industry initiatives and projects; to establish a recognized regional forum to address carbon management; and to generate a positive image for Saudi Aramco and the Kingdom.
