The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has held a series of meetings in Lima, the capital of Peru, on the sidelines of the Twentieth Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Minister has held separate meetings with the Minister of Environment of the Republic of South Korea Yoon Seong-kyu; the Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-moon; and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of the Republic of France Laurent Fabius. He has also chaired a meeting of Arab ministers and heads of delegations of Arab states in charge of Climate Change on the sidelines of the Conference. In his opening speech at the meeting, Minister Al-Naimi emphasized of the importance of unifying the positions of Arab countries and the coordination of their efforts, stressing the importance of adhering to the principles of the Framework Convention on climate change, especially the principle of common but differentiated responsibility. He affirmed the importance of reduction and its significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
