AlQa'dah 10, 1435, Sep 5, 2014, SPA -- Hurricane Norbert dumped rain along Mexico's Pacific coast as it headed for a brush with the Los Cabos resorts. Officials in Los Cabos closed schools and beaches and prepared emergency shelters on Thursday, though the hurricane's center was expected to stay offshore as it roars past, AP reported. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Norbert had maximum sustained winds of 90 mph (150 kph) Thursday night and it was centered about 100 miles (165 kilometers) southwest of the tip of the Baja California peninsula. Forecasters said Norbert, which reached hurricane strength Wednesday, was headed northwest at 8 mph (13 kph). Mexico's government issued a hurricane warning for the west coast of the Baja Peninsula from Santa Fe to Cabo San Lazaro. Mexico's National Meteorological Service said Norbert could unleash intense rains over much of the country's northwest.
