Hurricane Erick is moving just offshore along the southwestern coast of Mexico. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the Category 1 hurricane was centered early Sunday about 145 miles (230 kilometers) west of Mexico's Pacific coast port of Manzanillo. The storm has top sustained winds of about 80 mph (130 kph) and is moving toward the northwest at 10 mph (17 kph). Forecasters say the storm is expected to approach the Southern Baja California peninsula area late Sunday and pass near the peninsula Monday. Rainfall totaling 3 to 5 inches is possible in some areas, according to a report of the Associated Press. Mexican authorities say a tropical storm warning is in effect from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes on the mainland and in Southern Baja California from Santa Fe to La Paz.
