AlQa'dah 01, 1435, August 27, 2014, SPA -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today welcomed the Egypt-brokered ceasefire agreement on Gaza Strip between Israeli and Palestinian delegations. In a statement on the occasion, Iyad bin Amin Madani, the Secretary General, expressed hope that the arrangement turns to be a prelude to finding a final solution of the Israeli siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, opening of all crossings, and facilitating the access of humanitarian assistance as well as goods. He confirmed OIC's pledges to mobilize support for the Palestinians, citing the statements issued by the OIC secretariat general following the two extraordinary meetings held in Jeddah on July 10 and August 12, 2014 alternatively. He reiterated the call for his organization's member states, other affiliate bodies and Arab and Islamic funds to expedite support for the Strip. He also stressed the importance of making the arrangement reached yesterday a platform to revive the negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis with the aim to reach a fair and comprehensive durable solution that ends the Israeli occupation of the Palestinians territories, including eastern Al-Quds, and assist the Palestinians build their independent state with Al-Quds as capital.
