Death Toll in Gaza Reaches 539 as Israeli Artillery Shells Hospital
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 21 - 07 - 2014

At least four Palestinians were killed and dozens others were injured in Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling on Shuhadaa al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah on Monday, bringing the death toll to 539, and the injuries to more than 3245, since the beginning of Israel's aggression which started on Jul 8, according to local and medical sources.
On the 14th day of aggression on Gaza, at least 73 Palestinians were killed in a series of airstrikes that targeted several locations across the Gaza Strip.
According to WAFA, most of the casualties and fatalities have been children, including infants, women, and elderly, since the beginning of the aggression, according to media and medical sources.
Four Palestinians were killed and at least 63 were injured, including 13 seriously, in Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling that targeted Shuhadaa al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, according to local and medical sources.
To be noted, most of the injury cases were cases already being treated from earlier Israeli strikes.
The sources said Israeli reconnaissance aircrafts along with artillery bombarded the units of ICU, pediatrics, and surgery department, forcing the hundreds of patients, doctors and nurses and even nearby residents who fled the violent airstrikes seeking a safer refuge in Shuhadaa al-Aqsa Hospital to evacuate all departments and gather in the emergency department.
Medical staff said that following the shelling the Israeli army unjustifiably ordered the staff and even the wounded and their escort to leave the hospital, which the staff said is impossible to do given that there are no sufficient ambulances or medical teams to ensure their safe exit. Israeli strikes also targeted the ambulances.
Among the wounded were medical practitioners, nurses, patients, including people injured in earlier Israeli attacks and were transferred to the hospital for medical treatment.
Medical sources said that three Palestinians from Jundiya family were killed; Mahran Jundiya, Rahma Jundiya, and Tamer Jundiya, were killed afternoon Monday as Israeli artillery hit a civilian house in Shuja'iyya neighborhood east of Gaza, whereas Ibrahim Sha'ban was killed in Israeli bombing on ash-Shaghaf area northeast of Gaza.
