More than 20 people were killed and more than 160 injured Tuesday in Moscow when a packed underground train derailed at high speed during the morning rush hour, dpa reported. The Russian Investigative Committee said that three wagons derailed between the Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bulvar stations at 8:35 am 0435 GMT), when the train was travelling at a speed of 70 kilometres per hour. Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry said that 19 people were killed and 127 were hospitalized with injuries. Some 1,100 passengers were rescued from the tunnel. City health officials later said that two more victims had died in hospital. They said that roughly a third of those hospitalized were in critical condition. The exact cause of the accident was not immediately clear.
