Thiago Silva scored an early goal Friday to give Brazil a 1-0 halftime lead over Colombia in the World Cup quarterfinals, AP reported. The Brazil captain scored with his left knee in the seventh minute after a corner from Neymar. The cross missed everyone in front of goal and Silva came from behind the defense to score near the far post. Colombia had some good chances to equalize. Midfielder Juan Cuadrado's left-footed shot from the top of the area went just wide in the 11th. About 10 minutes later, the Colombians had a breakaway with four attackers against two, but Cuadrado's final pass near the penalty area was intercepted by Silva. The winner will play Germany in the semifinals.
