Eurozone unemployment stayed stable at 11.6 per cent for the month of May, while the overall European Union saw a slight dip to 10.3 per cent, both in seasonally adjusted terms, the EU statistics office Eurostat reported Tuesday, according to dpa. The eurozone rate compares to a level of 12 per cent in May 2013. The EU-wide rate was down from 10.4 per cent in April and 10.9 per cent in May 2013. Eurostat estimates that 18.6 million people were unemployed in the eurozone and 25.2 million unemployed in the greater European Union, marking a decrease of 28,000 for the 18-nation eurozone and 63,000 for the EU from April. Compared to May 2013, the drops equate to 636,000 for the eurozone and 1.36 million for the EU.
