One South Korean soldier was wounded Sunday in a shootout still underway near a school with a soldier who killed five comrades at a post near the North Korean border, the Yonhap news agency reported, according to dpa. The school in the border town of Goseong was cordoned off by the authorities and residents said they heard repeated gunshots, according to Yonhap. The sergeant also wounded seven soldiers in a shooting spree Saturday night and fled. At the time he was still armed with an assault rifle and had about 60 rounds of ammunition and a grenade, the army said. Identified only by his family name of Lin, he fired about 10 shots soon after he finished guard duty, Yonhap reported, citing unnamed officers. It was not known if the suspect was responsible for a grenade explosion that took place near the crime scene. "Lim was on the list of service persons who require special attention because he had difficulties in adapting himself to the military life," an officer was quoted as saying Saturday, noting that the motive was unknown.
