A shootout between Mexican soldiers and a convoy of gunmen left 15 gunmen and one soldier dead, Mexico's Defense Department said in a statement Thursday, hours before President Barack Obama arrived in the country to show his support for the battle against violent drug cartels. The shootout occurred Wednesday in a remote mountainous region in the southwestern state of Guerrero, where the resort of Acapulco is located. Soldiers were attacked by a convoy of gunmen while patrolling the drug-trafficking area. One was killed and another wounded in the battle near the town of San Nicolas del Oro. Troops later confiscated two heavy guns, 17 rifles, eight grenades, two handguns, ammunition, and eight vehicles.
