One person died among more than 800 migrants who are headed for Italy's coast after being rescued from the Mediterranean Sea, authorities said Monday. According to dpa, the victim was picked up by a Kuwaiti vessel along with 536 other people, the Italian Navy said on Twitter. They were due to arrive in the Sicilian port of Augusta later Monday. The navy also said one of its vessels intercepted 93 migrants and the coast guard picked up 200 more people overnight in a third rescue operation.
