The General Index of cost of living for May recorded, according to the base year 2007, an increase of 2,7% compared to its percentage of the same period of 2013. The general index of cost of living for May amounted to 129.5 points compared to 129.4 in April, according to the base year 2007, reflecting a rise in the index of May, a rate of 0.1%. In its monthly statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Central Department of Statistics and Information (CDSI) attributed this rise to the increase witnessed by the six main sections constituting the index for the cost of living, noting that the section of transport increased by 0.7 %; entertainment and culture section by 0.7%; hotels and restaurants section by 0.5%; housing furniture, equipment and maintenance by 0.2 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other kinds of fuels by 0.1%; and health section by 0.1%. The CDSI also pointed out that the three sections of the main sections constituting the index for the cost of living declined in their index numbers last May including the section of communications by 0.4%; goods and services by 0.3%; and clothing and shoes by 0.1%.
