Three government soldiers were killed and six wounded in a landmine attack by suspected communist rebels in the eastern Philippines, the military said Friday. The troops were on security patrol in a village in Las Navas town in Northern Samar province, 505 kilometers south of Manila, on Tuesday morning when the guerrillas detonated the landmine, dpa quoted Army Division Spokesman Major Angelo Gutierrez as saying. "The blast occurred only 700 meters from a populated area," but no civilians were hurt, he added, citing belated reports from the field.
