Four soldiers were killed and eight others wounded Sunday in an attack by communist rebels in the eastern Philippines, a military report said, according to DPA. The soldiers were members of a medical and dental team that had just conducted a civic mission in the municipality of San Jose de Buan in Samar province, southeast of Manila. They were on their way back to division headquarters when ambushed by around 30 communist rebels in the village of Caranas in Motiong town, the military report said. The report added that the soldiers were able to inflict undetermined casualties on the rebel side. Additional soldiers have been dispatched to hunt down the guerrillas.
