The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is tipped to form the next Indian government after two broadcasters put it well ahead in exit polls, according to dpa. According to Broadcaster Times Now, the opposition Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have secured between 249 and 265 seats in the country's 543-strong parliament. Another broadcaster, NDTV, which averaged polls broadcast on three news channels, says the NDA is set to gain 280 seats.
