The State of Kuwait, on behalf of the Arab Group at the United Nations, asserted the significance of the Security Council's role under the UN Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security. This came in a speech by Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi last night during the 68th round of the intergovernmental negotiations on the expansion and reform of the Security Council and its relationship with the General Assembly. Al-Otaibi said that the issue of Security Council reform should be in accordance with the general perception that is aimed at continuing the process of reform and development of all the organs of the UN. He stated that reform is an issue affecting the course of the General Assembly as one of the principal organs of the UN, adding that the General Assembly has many important roles at various levels, including provision of recommendations to the Security Council on matters concerning the maintenance of international peace and security in accordance with Article 11 of the Charter. --More 13:20 LOCAL TIME 10:20 GMT تغريد
