Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Office at Geneva Ambassador Faisal Trad said before the Human Rights Council today that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rejects the statement delivered by the representative of the Syrian regime. Ambassador Trad said that the words and phrases used by the representative of the Syrian regime reflect the regime's keenness on continuing its desperate attempts to divert attention from the heinous crimes it comments daily against its own people. "I am sure that all countries of the world and their people who are keen on protecting and promoting human rights have become immune to these desperate attempts exercised by the Syrian regime to defend itself. International reports by bodies and organizations working on the ground have condemned this regime and emphasized its responsibility for war crimes as well as continuous, unprecedented violations of human rights in Syria," Ambassador Trad said. Ambassador Trad also said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a reliable partner in the fight against terrorism. "My country has supported the establishment of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism in New York under the framework of the United Nations, donating a ten-year budget of $ 110 million. My country's Government has also presented nearly $500 million to support and assist the Syrian people, and we will continue to do so." Ambassador Trad expressed deep sadness at the international community's failure to end the suffering of the Syrian people which lasted over three years and resulted in killing more than 140,000 people.
