Seven people died in weather-related accidents across Japan as a winter snowstorm hit wide areas of the country, dpa cited reports as saying Sunday. Snow in Tokyo had reached 27 centimetres by early Sunday, the capital's heaviest accumulation in 45 years, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Snowfall had nearly ended in Tokyo and surrounding areas, but still affected some flights, major highways and train services in eastern and north-eastern Japan. The weather agency warned of heavy snow in the north-eastern region as the weather system was expected to dump more snow through Sunday night. Seven people had died and about 1,000 were injured in snow-related accidents, broadcaster NHK reported.
