Eight people died in snow-related accidents on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, including six whose cars were buried in snow, reports said Sunday. A winter pressure pattern dumped more snow on the island and other parts of northern Japan over the weekend. A bullet train derailed in Akita prefecture on Saturday afternoon, Kyodo news agency reported.
