A worker was injured in an accident outside the World Cup stadium in the Brazilian jungle city of Manaus, AP quoted local organizers as saying on Friday. Organizers in charge of the stadium's construction said the worker was hurt while dismantling a crane that was used to install the roof of the Arena da Amazonia. Eric Gamboa, a spokesman for the local government department organizing the World Cup in Manaus said the worker's condition was not immediately known and his name was not being released. Citing local authorities, Brazilian media said the worker was a 55-year-old man from Portugal. Globo TV said the worker has a head injury and his condition is considered serious. Because of the accident, an inspection visit by the Amazonas state governor at the stadium on Friday was canceled. Gamboa said the accident is not expected to interfere in the construction at the venue. The crane had been removed from the stadium's main construction site and was across the street. The Arena da Amazonia is one of the five stadiums still under construction less than five months before the World Cup, although local organizers said construction at the site was nearly 97 percent completed when the accident happened. It will host four World Cup matches next June, including England vs. Italy and the United States vs. Portugal. -- SPA 20:16 LOCAL TIME 17:16 GMT تغريد
