Thirteen foreigners were among 21 people killed in a Taliban attack in a section of the Afghan capital popular with diplomats, police said Saturday, according to dpa. One suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to a Lebanese restaurant, opening the way for two gunmen to enter and shoot patrons and staff. "Almost all of the victims were shot dead by the two attackers inside the restaurant," Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said. "Our latest reports say that 13 foreigners - four of them United Nations staff - and eight Afghans were killed in last night's attack," International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde confirmed the death of its representative in Kabul, a 60-year-old Lebanese national named Wabel Abdallah. The UN aid mission in Afghanistan said it was seeking "to verify the status" of their personnel. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was "in retaliation to the massacre carried out by foreign invaders this week in Siyah Gerd district of Parwan province." "Reliable information indicates that 29 high-ranking foreign invaders and eight hireling Afghans killed," insurgent spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
