U.S. stocks closed mostly lower Tuesday, as they retreated from their recent record highs. The dollar gained ground against the euro, the pound, and the yen. Light sweet crude oil for December delivery dropped $2.10 to $93.04 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures fell $9.90 to $1,271.20 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 32.43, or 0.21 percent, to 15,750.67. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 4.2, or 0.24 percent, to 1,767.69. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index 0.13, or 0.00 percent, to 3,919.92.
