Nigerian military kills five insurgents

Five insurgents and two soldiers were killed during a raid in the northern Nigerian city of Kano, the military said late Saturday, according to dpa.
Military spokesman Ikedichi Iweha said that "intelligence reports had indicated that the terrorists were in the process of finalizing plans to carry out simultaneous suicide attacks in Abuja and Kano."
The military said it recovered two AK-47 rifles and 458 rounds of ammunition.
