AlHijjah 17, 1434, October 22, 2013, SPA -- Hurricane Raymond weakened Tuesday and was stationary over the Pacific Ocean off Mexico, but a red alert remained in effect with school and other activities suspended, dpa reported. Raymond, which featured winds of up to 165 kilometres per hour, was downgraded from category 3 to category 2 on the five-tier scale of hurricane intensity, the Miami-based US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Monday. The centre said the hurricane was positioned some 220 kilometres west of Acapulco in Guerrero state. A further weakening was expected by Wednesday, when Raymond was forecast to slowly start moving west. In its current forecast track, it would not make landfall in Guerrero, which is still recovering from hurricanes Manuel and Ingrid. However, the NHC said Raymond remained erratic and its course might change again. Guerrero Governor Angel Aguirre said activities at schools and other places in coastal areas such as Acapulco - home to around 1 million people - were cancelled as a precaution. Several hundred people were evacuated, he said. -- SPA 00:00 LOCAL TIME 21:00 GMT تغريد
