AlHijjah 16, 1434, Oct 21, 2013, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today vowed firm commitment to respect and enhance human rights and support for the international mechanism of comprehensive periodical review. In a report before the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Eiban, Chairman of Saudi Arabian Human Rights Commission and head of his country's delegation to the Human Rights Commission's meetings, emphasized the role being played by the Kingdom, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, through its G20 seat, in defense of developing countries' rights, the Saudi initiatives aiming at alleviating the negative impacts of the international financial and economic crises as well as its support for the world economy and prosperity in its capacity as reliable energy supplier and guarantor for world oil market stability. He pointed to the generous services the Kingdom is providing for pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors of Makkah and Madinah every year and the giant expansions and maintenance of the two holy mosques and sacred places, citing history's most largest expansion of the grand mosque in Makkah and the prophet's mosque in Madinah, currently taking place. He showed that both the charter of the UN human rights as well as Islamic Sharia law, to which the Kingdom is strictly committed, respect the human rights and call for their enhancement. Al-Aiban said the Statute of Governance in Saudi Arabia, derived from Sharia law, confirms the noble values and principles that maintain and preserve the dignity of humans. It also obliges the State to protect human rights, particularly in case of emergency, illness, disability and overage. Moreover, it supports social insurance, encourages individuals and enterprises to contribute to charity works. He said the Kingdom's government generously provides free education and health care to its people, in addition to soft loans and enacts fair regulations and laws relating to judiciary, criminal justice, labor, culture, health and education. --More 21:41 LOCAL TIME 18:41 GMT تغريد
