AlQa'dah 10, 1434, Sep 16, 2013, SPA -- Nominations opened Monday for next year's presidential election in Afghanistan. The presidential election is slated for April 5. "We have opened registration for presidential and provincial council elections in all 34 provinces from 8 am (0330 GMT) Monday morning," said Noor Mohammad Noor, spokesman for the Independent Election Commission, DPA reported. The incumbent, President Hamid Karzai, is constitutionally barred from running for a third term. Karzai has held the presidency since the ouster of the Taliban regime.
