U.S. stocks closed mixed Tuesday, as investors weighed the latest corporate results against a weak regional manufacturing report. The dollar lost ground against the euro and the pound, but gained ground versus the yen. Light sweet crude oil for September delivery rose 29 cents to $107.23 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures dropped $1.30 to $1,334.70 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 22.19, or 0.14 percent, to 15,567.74. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 3.14, or 0.19 percent, to 1,692.39. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 21.12, or 0.59 percent, to 3,579.27.
