The Canadian-based Veris Gold Corp. has announced plans to open a third gold mine at its Jerritt Canyon operations in northeast Nevada. Company officials tell the Elko Daily Free Press the new Starvation Caynon mine is in the southern part of the Jerritt Canyon property in Elko County about 50 miles north of Elko. An opening ceremony is scheduled July 29, according to a report of the Associated Press. Veris Gold says it's the first gold mine to come into production at the site since 2004. The company based in Vancouver also has mines in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory but its primary holdings are in Nevada.
