Following the Riyadh-Dammam train voyage No. 8's collision with a maintenance device, killing one and injuring others, the Saudi Railways authority said a thorough investigation into the incident revealed that the driver of the maintenance truck and his assistants stampeded by the train were on duty according to a sub-contractor's instructions who is to do maintenance work in the place while the line is free.
A statement by the Saudi Railways authority today held the contractors responsible for not following the restrictions and hazards in this case, he could otherwise avoid the accident.
The driver of the train was facing, all of a sudden, people working on the way which should have been cordoned from both sides as a train is scheduled to come, the statement said, adding that he could not avoid the accident which led to the killing of the truck's driver, the injury of his assistant and the train's driver, assistant and translator with the front of the train sustaining damages.
However, the investigators held the Railway authority a minor responsibility for negligence, the statement added.
