A suspected rebel was killed and four police officers were wounded Wednesday in a grenade attack on a police van in the Indian portion of Kashmir, police said. The van was targeted as the officers took the suspected rebel to a prison after his recent arrest, AP quoted police officer Afadul Mujtaba as saying. The grenade exploded inside the van, and the suspected rebel suffered head injuries and later died in a hospital, Mujtaba said. No one claimed responsibility for the attack in Srinagar. Mujtaba said an initial probe suggested that it was a random attack against police.
