Border Guard land and sea patrols have successfully foiled during the pre-fasting month of Shaaban an attempt to smuggle 2585 kilograms of Hashish, 183456 narcotic pills and 20657 kilograms of Gatt as well as the trafficking of 194 pieces of weapons and 97236 of live ammunition. Brig. Gen. Mohammed bin Saad al-Ghamdi, spokesman of the Border Guard, said as many as 77518 persons were apprehended trying to enter the country in or out illegally in addition to 478 traffickers, most of them caught in the southern region. Despite the advent of the holy month of worshipping, the rate of smuggling and infiltration across the border was not brought down, he said citing that the guard patrols have arrested nine traffickers with 145 kilograms of Hashish in a single operation which witnessed fire exchange over the last few days.
