A police officer on Friday shot dead a naked man in Berlin who had been brandishing a knife, the state prosecutor's office said, according to dpa. The incident took place in the Neptune Fountain opposite Berlin's city hall in the heart of the German capital. The 31-year-old, who has not been named, had threatened a police officer with a 20-centimeter serrated knife and was bleeding after injuring himself, police spokesman Stefan Redlich said. An autopsy later confirmed he died from a lung wound caused by the bullet. Two officers had been called to the scene after being alerted by city hall security guards. The man, who was in the fountain, failed to respond to calls from the officers to drop the knife, Redlich said. Instead he held it against his neck before lurching at one of the police officers who had climbed into the fountain. The dangerous situation caused the other officer to fire a shot at him, Redlich said. -- SPA 18:05 LOCAL TIME 15:05 GMT تغريد
