Investigators have said that a man who shot a police officer in the hand at a Taif petrol station on Saturday was drunk at the time of the incident. Eyewitnesses said the man, described as in his twenties, appeared at the site brandishing a firearm, causing panic as staff and customers proceeded to flee. When a police officer stepped in to confront him, the gunman shot him in the hand and then hid in a toilet as police surrounded the site and eventually moved in to restrain him. A police spokesman said that investigations into the individual at Al-Salama Police Station were continuing.
