The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrates the World Refugee Day which falls on Thursday and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000. In a report today, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reviewed the Kingdom's contributions to the activities of High Commission of the United Nations for Refugees, noting that its President Antonio Guterres praised, during his visit to the Kingdom in 2007, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for his support for the Commission and its humanitarian works all over the world. The Kingdom is considered as one of the largest countries supporting the activities of the Commission and providing contributions to the Commission's projects, especially the Saudi program to help the Palestinian people to implement their projects in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Kingdom has also provided great humanitarian assistance to eliminate the sufferings of refugees and displaced persons all over the world. The Director of the Office of Middle East and North Africa of United Nations High Commission for Refugees Jacob Al-Holou has expressed his thanks to and appreciation of the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for its generous support for the Commission which has led to the improvement of the situations of refugees in all parts of the world. It is noteworthy that the United Nations refugee agency said that the numbers of refugees and displaced persons reached 45.2 million by the end of 2012.
