U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, as investors digested stellar economic data that appeared to put the housing and financial crises far in the rearview mirror. The dollar rose against the euro and the pound but fell versus the yen. Light sweet crude oil for July delivery gained 86 cents to $95.01 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures dropped $7.70 to $1,378.90 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 106.29, or 0.69 percent, to 15,409.39. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 10.46, or 0.63 percent, to 1,660.06. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index moved up 29.75, or 0.86 percent, to 3,488.89.
