Swedish police Sunday reported a seventh night of scattered violence in Stockholm's suburbs, but said there was a significant reduction in the rate of incidents when compared to the events of the last week. In general, violence levels has ebbed, said a police spokesman, after a week of riots sparked by the May 13 shooting of a 69-year-old man, which immigrant groups say was the result of police heavy-handedness, according to a report of DPA. "We are on the way to normalizing the situation," said spokesman Kjell Lindgren. That said, he noted that windows had been smashed at a school in a southern Stockholm suburb and that at least 16 people had been detained on suspicion of planning violent activities. "But there were no violent gatherings of people or violence against our officers," he said.
