Swedish police announced Friday they were increasing their efforts to arrest participants in the riots that have rocked Stockholm's immigrant suburbs for five consecutive nights, dpa reported. "During the initial nights we faced a lot of violence. We focussed on ensuring that the firefighters could work safely. Now we are stepping up and will seek arrests," Stockholm county police chief Mats Lofving said. Authorities said officers from across Sweden were being deployed to the capital to bolster local police forces. Police arrested eight people on Friday in the southern suburb of Alvsjo, where rioters set a police station on ablaze and vandalized a community centre. In the northern suburb Kista, a Montessori school was destroyed by a fire. At least 30 cars and several buildings were also set on fire overnight. Rioters threw stones at firefighters, who responded to 70 fires in and around the capital. A total of 29 people have been arrested, according to the police. They have said there is no sign the rioters are coordinating their attacks. -- SPA 20:36 LOCAL TIME 17:36 GMT تغريد
