Four Indian soldiers were killed in fighting in India-administered Kashmir on Friday, an Indian Army spokesman said. The incident took place in Tral area of Pulwama district, about 35 kilometres south of Jammu and Kashmir state capital Srinagar. The suspected militants opened fire on a patrol, killing three troops immediately, while a fourth succumbed to his injuries later, army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ankur Vasisht said. A militant was also killed when the soldiers returned fire but his body had not yet been recovered as the hostilities were continuing, Vasisht added.
