The death toll neared 1,100 as more bodies were retrieved Saturday, one day after they rescued a woman under a building that collapsed in Bangladesh, officials said. Rescuers have recovered 1,084 bodies since the April 24 accident, disaster management official Captain Palash said. The eight-storey building that housed five garment factories, a bank and shops collapsed in Savar, 25 kilometre north-west of Dhaka, leaving nearly 2,500 people injured. On Friday, garment worker Reshma Begum was found alive in the rubble, having survived after finding dry food and water in the wreckage. She was in stable condition and undergoing treatment at a military hospital, officials were quoted as saying by DPA.
