The death toll rose to 362 people from an eight-storey building that collapsed in Bangladesh as rescuers began a second phase of operations Sunday to reach trapped survivors using heavy equipment. "There is no alternative but to use equipment at this stage for the sake of safety of the rescuers and survivors," said Major General Syed Hassan Suhrawardy, who is leading the operation. A few survivors were found unconscious under the rubble and the rescuers were trying to pull them out manually, he said. More than 2,460 survivors have escaped the wreckage thus far, according to a report of DPA. The building that housed five garment factories, a bank, private offices and shops collapsed Wednesday in Savar, 25 kilometres north-west of Dhaka. Most of the victims were crushed under the collapsed concrete structure, officials said.
